Upgrade or Replace

We'll evaluate your system and give you your best options.

Fix it! Upgrade it! Replace it!

It's a tough call sometimes, but here are a few things to think about.

  • Generally speaking, a computer which is three years old or older can only benefit from a memory(RAM) upgrade. This can usually be done less than $100. Spending any more on a system with this many miles is usually not recommended. When repairs or upgrades can amount to $300 or more it's time to get a new one.
  • There are some situations where a low end computer ($300-$600) can be the ideal solution. But most people should expect to spend between $700 and $900 on a new PC.  For a laptop, you should be thinking $800 - $1100. And that doesn't include productivity software like Microsoft Office. Get the biggest screen you can even though that adds a bit more weight to a laptop. You won't be sorry. Big hard drives are OK, but spend your money on memory(RAM). You can't have too much. Load it up.
  • Where do you shop? I like to start with Dell. They usually have something for everyone's budget. Shop online because they have the latest deals.
  • What about a Mac? I live in a Windows world, but I bought an iMac about 6 months ago and I love it. Switching from Windows to the Mac is an adventure. You can follow mine on Mark's MacSwitch Blog. If you're a desktop user, you should be looking at an iMac. Get the big one and lots of RAM. Expect to pay more. Go to an Apple store near you, and play with it all you want before you buy. I bought mine from Small Dog Electronics. I was very happy with the experience. And remember, you can run Windows on your Mac if you want to. I can show you how.
  • Finally, everyone's needs and situations are different. It can be pretty confusing choosing the right system. That's why you should call me. I speak plain English, and helping people is my business. Relationships are what matter most. No matter what brand of computer you buy, we can help you choose a new system that's just right for you. We can work with almost any budget. Once you choose a system we'll set it up right and keep it running right for as long as you own it. And remember, it's not the sale that counts with me, it's the relationship I develop with you that lasts through the years. I'll be there when you need me.
