OK, those are the ground rules. Above all, I’m trying to keep it simple because my clients tell me that’s the way they like it. However, they rarely say “just tell me what to get”. Everyone wants to be a smart consumer. So let’s start with some basic info. Let’s talk platforms. No, I don’t mean those big shoes from the 70’s. I’m talking about whether you should buy a Mac or a PC.

You’ve probably seen those clever Apple commercials; I’m a Mac, I’m a PC? Finally, Microsoft has responded with its own ads, but you won’t get much help from these guys when you’re making your choice. And you need to get past some myths like Mac’s are easier to use. Well, yes, if you’ve always used a Mac and never used a PC or if this is your first computer. If you’re going to switch from the PC, there’s a learning curve. (OK, that’s another article) But my point is that I’m kind of agnostic about all of this. You need to decide what’s right for you. What I suggest is that since you already know what a PC is like, why not visit the nearest Apple store near you and take one for a test drive.

Now we get to the part where you decide what you need and what you want. Most people who call me don’t know the answer to either question. That’s why they call. And, as with most other purchases, need and want are not always the same. So here are a few questions:
